The Bank takes great pride in its highly-skilled staff and its
extensive training program. The percentage of personnel with advanced
degrees in the Bank is one of the highest among domestic banks,
and its workforce, nearly 80% of whom are younger than 45, provide
great promise of strong leadership in the years to come.
The Bank has won several awards for its staff and executive training
programs, and is annually recognized as a model program among Chinese
banks. A selection of over 20 courses each year, covering project
management, project evaluation, asset restructuring, credit and
liquidity management, and other important skills provides each staff
member with the ability to expand his or her personal and professional
development in many areas.
Staff levels at December 31, 1999 now exceed approximately 3,300,
spread over 29 different locations around China and Hong Kong. The
Bank's training and education program consists of several components:
Self-study and self-development courses - CDB strongly encourages
its staff to pursue higher levels of education outside of the work
environment, by participating in college and university classes
as part of their spare time.
Overseas Study Toursˇ¤Cooperation with its overseas banking associates
is very important to CDB. Since its inception, CDB has sent teams
of senior management and department management for study tours with
international banks and securities companies to improve their understanding
of the banking sector globally, and identify ways to improve the
Bank's operations in China. While the nature of the topics discussed
changes each year, their general focus is on business skills, and
introducing international practices to the Chinese market.
Domestic Targeted Trainingˇ¤CDB has established relationships with
several leading universities in China, all in the interest of bringing
a higher level of education to its employees, making them more equipped
to handle their job responsibilities. At Xiamen University, the Bank
has invested over RMB 2.05 million to provide over 70 graduate students
with Master's degrees during 1999. The Central University of Finance
and Banking also provides highly-qualified professional instructors
to conduct a series of courses to help staff obtain higher education
degrees in the convenience of the workplace. Over 400 people have
been trained through this program since it was originated in 1995.
Expert Speakers and Seminarsˇ¤International and domestic experts
are regularly invited to present courses to the Bank staff on relevant
topics. During the past year, finance experts covered such topics
as credit risk management, asset securitizations, small and medium-sized
enterprise financing, and financial engineering.
The development of the Bank's staff also relies heavily on their
ability to stay current on new trends affecting the marketplace.
Core skills, such as technological and language proficiency, are
made a required part of all staff training, and more specific classes
on Internet usage and electronic banking trends, are also being
continuously developed and presented.
